Our Honorees of the Evening

The Knight Family Charitable Foundation was established by Peg and Bill Knight originally of Savannah, Georgia and later of Saddle River, NJ. Peg and Bill were truly Southern charmers with a great sense of humor, good-natured spirit and a strong willingness to lend a hand to someone in need. They often were the life of the party, and time with family and friends was a priority in their lives. Giving back to the community was something they felt firmly about. Both Peg and Bill had a long history of volunteering. Bill’s service began in the Navy as the Captain of a PT Boat during WWII and again during the Korean Conflict. In his NJ community, Bill was on the Town Planning Board and also was Police Commissioner. Peg learned to drive a truck for the American Red Cross during wartime. In her community, Peg continued in many capacities with her service to the Red Cross, as well as The Junior League, The Forum School and Children’s Theatre. The Foundation was funded in 2015 in their honor and began awarding grants to charities whose missions fit with the mission of the Knight Foundation.
Currently, Nancy and Rex Knight, along with a board of trustees carry on the mission of the Knight Family Charitable Foundation. They are also very involved in volunteering in their community. Nancy is the Co-leader of a seniors group in their church and is a Trustee at Kennedy Catholic HS. Nancy was a Girl Scout leader for 17 years and Community Director for 4 years. Rex has works in the Computer industry and is currently employed at Hi-Link Technology based in Stamford. He was a Cub Scout leader and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
All of the Knights have soft spots in their hearts for animals. Through the years they have nurtured many animals who became part of their family. Nancy and Rex look forward to their children joining them on the board in the future. Their daughter, Jennifer, established and manages Del Gato Rescue for cats in California. Their son, Doug, rescued two pit bull pups in the woods of the Adirondacks and found a home for one and adopted the other. Their daughter, Kristen, has become involved in some of the grant work.
Nancy and Rex salute Jennifer and Julie and the team and all the volunteers at Paws Crossed. They are truly in awe of the amazing life saving work everyone at Paws Crossed does in such an effective, efficient, and caring way! Our hats are off to all of you!
